All,

Unless or until I hear another complaint about a news story not having anything to do with ham radio I will dispense with the warnings not to read when I post them.  If you are indeed offended by such things, please just send me a private email and I will try and help figure out how to protect your sensibilities from being shocked by such things.

In any case, this editorial – Your Coming Summer of Blackouts – is a fascinating read.  The link is to a free copy the Wall Street Journal allows subscribers to gift.  In Club discussions reference EMP, grid reliability, etc., the details of this article are always relevant.  If you are not a WSJ subscriber I hope you enjoy being able to read the story.

Why?

No offense to anyone that does live under a rock 🙂

Knowledge is power
I have a generator and I also have a limited amount of Solar and Wind power
in power small power plants that I own, no renting from Oncor or anyone else.

I attempt conservation, routinely
and during peak power use warnings from Oncor and others I do kill a couple of monitors in my Ham Radio Station
By un plugging them.

A lot of today’s modern electronics still consume
electricity when “powered off”
Hence, I unplug some devices like monitors.
Actually all my monitors are tied to a switch box, allowing “un plugging by pressing a mechanical switch on the front panel of said box.

I normally have Seven Monitors on in my shack, when I am in Contest mode
Two less for now contests.
Powering down (unplugging) all but two can decrease usage from the ham shack.
