    All,

In an effort to give participants a one-stop-shop for Field Day material, while providing the option for people to participate to the degree they wish too, this forum post is intended to give the ability to brainstorm, trades notes and thoughts about Field Day 2021. The people who are currently listed below were perhaps on the list from 2019. It has been updated in some places but not in others. I will subscribe to this thread, but if you want to be added to and/or deleted from some portion of the list please email me and I will modify the list below.

A big thank you to Erica and Phillip and whomever else that may have helped to get this forum going!

Hopefully we can get all those involved with FD over here to discuss things. I will post some of my FD updates later but right now it has stopped raining and the sun is shining.

    Charles

Notes about the list at the top as it pertains to me:

“24-hour operators WA5VHU” – I plan to be there for the whole time but I doubt I can stay awake that long. I usually quit some time after midnight, sleep in the car, get up the next morning and continue to operate. If anyone wants to use my radio and antenna when I go to sleep they are welcome to it.

“Push up pole military 40’ – WA5VHU” – 2019 information, I am not bringing this.

“Dunestar HF filter – WA5VHU” – Not bringing this however I am bringing individual bandpass filters for 160 thru 10 meters which should be connected between each stations’ transmitter and antenna.

“Alt power extra points solar+battery – WA5VHU” – Yes, I am bringing a solar panel and battery so we can get our extra points.

    “All band vertical&G5RV – WA5VHU” – 2019 info, I am not bringing this.

    “Coax, extra – 2-60’&1-100’ if needed – WA5VHU” – 2019 info, I am not bringing this.

Please let me know if there is anything I can bring that you may need and not have. Our vehicles are going to be very full I think!

    Charles

Hi there group. I am getting excited about the up coming Field Day! I will be there 24 hours but probably will not be awake the whole time.

Question about meals for Field Day.
First – are any of us getting together at Aunt Mary’s for breakfast before we head out to the pavilion to start setting up? If yes, What time?
Second – Is anyone cooking the meals for us at the pavilion? If yes, what meals and what are we having?

That is all for now. I may have more over the next day or so.

    All,

As this is a new process for all of us one thing I just realized is that I do not see an edit function for posts. I have reached out to Erica to explore our options there as it would be a lot cleaner for me to take input like Charles made and modify my original post. While we look into how to add that functionality please just make posts and if I can get some editing tools added then I will circle back and clean this all up.

Ok group, this is the first questions I have for a few of you to help do some pre-coordination:

    The list shows the following:
    Radios + headphones – 2 – WA5VHU, 7300 – KF5ZMA, 1 – KC5KOH, 2+6-NV7Z, MARS – N5DDS

My (WA5VHU) ONE radio that I am bringing will be an Icom IC-7300 that covers 160 thru 6 meters and my large loop antenna will also cover the same range assuming the SGC-237 coupler will tune the loop over that frequency range.

KF5ZMA, you are shown as also bringing and IC-7300 radio. What antenna do you plan to use, what frequency range do you plan to operate and where do you expect to put your antenna?

KC5KOH, you are shown as bringing one radio. What antenna do you plan to use, what frequency range do you plan to operate and where do you expect to put your antenna?

NV7Z, you are shown as also bringing, that is great! What antenna do you plan to use and where do you expect to put your antenna?

N5DDS, you are shown as also bringing a radio for MARS. Do you plan to operate only on MARS or also on the Ham bands? What kind of radio and antenna do you plan to use, what frequency range do you plan to operate and where do you expect to put your antenna? Please remember that even though you may be operating on some MARS frequencies that are just outside the Ham bands you may still cause local interference to receivers on the Ham band in your frequency range.

Who else is bringing a radio and antenna and planning to operate? If so, please let us know the answer to the common questions above.

    73,
    Charles

This is a artist deception of the large loop antenna I plan to use for Field Day.

I think it would be best for both you and I keep our antennas away from each other as far as practical to reduce interference.

I welcome your comments and questions.

    Charles

Ok thanks George, so no radio for NV7Z. You can operate my station some if you want.

That leaves WA5VHU (me), KF5ZMA, KC5KOH and N5DDS. That’s our 4 stations unless someone else shows up.

Is anyone going to operate VHF/UHF? It is a free station that doesn’t count against our 4 transmitter classification. I should be able to operate 6 meters with my big loop but haven’t planned to bring any other bands.

    All,

Erica has confirmed that anyone wishing to modify a post must do it within 15 minutes of posting, otherwise it is kind of forever. We can administratively make changes, but I think what I will do is take the initial post I made, copy it, modify it per the follow up comments and then repost it in line. That way there is continuity of thought and people will be able to see the changes that have been made. I will post the first update in the next few days.

As for meals, I wish I had some ideas for how we might get that done. In previously years Sue took charge of that and she and Frank actually DID it, as opposed to coordinating it. One problem I can see is that we don’t know how many people will be there. Kathy and I will bring our coffee urn and all the supplies needed to have coffee. We don’t have a firm plan, but will probably be there early to get the RV into place before it gets crowded and then go get breakfast at Aunt Mary’s. On the way back we can pick up donuts. I think I recall Jim Clark saying something about selling hotdogs but I never heard anything more. Let me mull this a bit more. Maybe if we asked Club members to RSVP for lunch if we could get our arms around the number of people we could order BBQ? If anyone has any ideas please speak up.

Charles, changed my mind I will bring an FT897 to run 6 and 2 mtrs using USB and FT8. Will probably use beams at about 15 to 20 feet. Will operate from my van and be clear of Pavillion. Will play it by ear as it goes. Breakfast between 8 and 830 with meeting to follow at Pavillion.

George, that is great. I listened to FT8 on 6 meters last weekend during the VHF contest and heard stations from all over the place!

You should be able to operate from the parking lot inside my loop with no problems as we will be far apart band-wise.
