All,
Would you be surprised to learn the National Rifle Association (NRA), American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) could all agree with each other in a legal case? When is the last time that you recall the SCOTUS ruling unanimously on ANYTHING? Well, notwithstanding our impression that they never do, they actually do quite often. Seriously. There appears to be some sort of concerted effort to twist opinion to the contrary. While everyone is entitled to their own opinion, they are not entitled to their own facts. Apologies to deceased Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan for kind of butchering his statement “You are entitled to your opinion. But you are not entitled to your own facts.”
Setting aside that this is a First Amendment free speech ruling for a Second Amendment advocacy group – Wow! I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read the headline. Yes, A Unanimous Supreme Court Backs the NRA on Free Speech is an editorial by the Wall Street Journal editorial board, but still, the facts don’t change. There is also a WSJ article Supreme Court Sides With NRA in Free Speech Case which goes into further detail. Pointed out there is that the ACLU represented the NRA. Talk about politics making for strange bedfellows. LOL I know for a fact the ACLU was greatly pained to take on this case, but it was clearly the right thing to do.
Again, Kathy and I subscribe to the Wall Street Journal. They provide links for free sharing to their subscribers. Both should load right up for you. You may have to click an “X” to close a dialog box or some such thing, but both of these are well worth reading.
Enjoy,
