KeymasterAll,
Several weeks ago Kathy and I were watching the 6pm WFAA-TV weather and saw a pretty funny exchange between Pete Delkus, their chief meteorologist and the other two anchors. Kathy operated the DVR and I videoed it with my phone. Then Kathy Tweeted at Delkus and invited him to come to our 50th Anniversary Club meeting on May 20. I started looking at their website and all of the WFAA people are in high demand as public speakers. Delkus requires that you will have a minimum of 100 people in attendance. They replied to me saying that due to the distance involved and other obligations they would not have anyone available to attend, but then I got a really nice video from Jesse Hawila, another WFAA meteorologist. I think you will enjoy the mashup that I did.

KeymasterJerry Keisler (WA5KZA) reached out to me with this picture of a cake that was done for the 30th Anniversary:
The officers are discussing getting one made for the meeting using our logo updated for the 50th.
Thank you Jerry!

KeymasterAll,
We blasted out an email earlier today, asking for everyone to please RSVP attendance at the May 20th meeting where we will celebrate our 50th Anniversary. In case you did not see that email the link to the RSVP page is at this link.
We greatly appreciate you letting us know if you will attend or not. We need to make sure that we are properly set up for the size of the group that will attend.
Thanks,
Phillip

KeymasterAll,
Earlier today we sent a Press Release to all the local operations that print newspapers and publish news websites. There is the Press Release:
One place is planning to do a piece in advance of the meeting and they asked for some “action shots” of Club members doing ham radio stuff. I have previously asked for the same thing so I will make the pitch again – Do you have a particularly cool picture of yourself or another Club member doing something with a ham radio? If so please email me here and send me the picture. I will confirm the details (name(s), location, timeframe, etc.) and get it to them. They are particularly interested in action shots of people that live in Lamar County. I sent them ten pictures earlier before they mentioned that. I went back and looked at the ten pictures and Red River, Delta and Fannin Counties were all represented. None from Lamar so please help me out with something.
Thanks!

KeymasterAll,
Club member and American Radio Relay League (ARRL) North Texas Section Manager Steven Lott Smith (KG5VK) has an additional item we will be giving away as a door prize at the meeting. The item is a Handbook 100 | The 100th edition of The ARRL Handbook for Radio Communications Hardcover Collector’s Edition. This is one very nice looking book and retails for $80.

KeymasterAll,
This is a little bit outside of my usual skill set, but I tried to cobble together a map for the event. Two actually, one that shows the big view, High Cotton Kitchen to PJC. The other is a bit more detailed, showing parking. I am really not at all familiar with PJC so please look this over and if you have any suggestions for changes, please let me know and I will try and incorporate them.
Thanks,
Phillip

KeymasterAll,
Earlier this year I was doing some “family tree” research on the Club. After reading his QRZ page I reached out to Steve Walker (WB5EJV). He is the grandson of original Club members Alvin and Bertie Todd. I came on him while researching call signs and he had just a great writeup on his QRZ page. Please go and look at it here. Anyway, I invited him to come up from Azle (the other side of Eagle Mountain Lake, northwest of Fort Worth) and they will be joining us for breakfast at High Cotton Kitchen and then going to the meeting. A couple of days ago I got a call from a Linda Russell saying she too was a relative. I was up to my neck busy and could not really talk with her for long, but I emailed Steve updating him that our venue was being changed, asked how many people might be coming with him and asked about her. His reply is below.
Good morning Phillip,
Copy on the venue change for the meeting. My wife and I will probably join for breakfast, total attendees for the meeting is 6.
Here is the break down of who we are:
Me – WB5EJV (Alvins call sign)
Amanda – My wife non-ham for now
Susan Muse – My sister WB5JFL (Bertie Todds call sign)
Sherry Hall – My sister K5UBM (Bobby Walkers call sign)
Sarah Land – Bertie and Alvin Todds daughter, our mom WB5JKR
Archie Muse – Susans husband WB5MUSLinda Russell is my aunt, Sarahs sister and Bertie and Alvins daughter.
Is there a specific room for the meeting at the college?
Thank you,
Steve
Randy Holland has graciously agreed to chaperone their group. Let’s make them all feel welcomed when they show up.

KeymasterAll,
We thought it would be good for our invited guests to have someone to chaperone them for our meeting. I replaced the table above with an updated guest list and it reflects the chaperones. Other than our invited guests we are still unsure how many people will be present at the meeting. Please be a great ambassador for the Club and try to meet and greet and make all of our guests to feel welcome.
Thanks,
Phillip

KeymasterAll,
We just blasted out an email asking for help. Here is what we need help with:
A photographer with a DSLR camera who will be the designated still photographer for the event.
Two people to cut and serve cake. Preferably they can bring their own cutting and serving utensils. Otherwise…
Two knives and two serving spatulas or two combination cutter/serving tools.
One person to pull bottled water out of a cooler, wipe them off and hand them to people.
NEW – Someone to provide a few hand towels to wipe water bottles off.
NEW – Someone to make us up two boxes, shoe box sized, and preferably different colors…although we can work around it if they are the same color. They will need a lid and a slot in the lid for us to drop tickets into. We will have two styles of ticket, one for the regular drawing and one dedicated to tickets for the radio certificates.
Please email me at this link and let me know if you can help out with any of this stuff.
Thanks,
Phillip

KeymasterAll,
We just hit North Texas e-News – Red River Valley Amateur Radio Club to celebrate 50th anniversary. If you do Facebook, please click the link and from the article page click the button to recommend the piece to Facebook. I don’t do Facebook, but it looks like that somehow pushes the content over to Facebook? Thanks to anyone that gives that a whirl. LOL

KeymasterAll,
The Paris News carried our story in their print version and on the website. The print version didn’t capture the venue change, but we believe we are adequately communicating it. Their web version did get the venue update. Knowing we would potentially have the venue change cause issues, we spoke with High Cotton Kitchen ownership and they will brief their staff and we will have handbills at the cash register to hand to anyone that shows up late. It is likely that anyone going to just the meeting will have heard of the change via our emails, website updates, radio traffic (please do talk it up) and the Monday night net. Anyone that missed it will then be walking up to High Cotton Kitchen as the last stragglers from breakfast are headed to PJC. So, lots of opportunities to make sure everyone gets to the right place. And all the invited guests have received a personal phone call from a Club officer making sure that they all know for sure where to go.
The electronic version of The Paris News piece is at the top of their page and our own Cindy Penry (KD5CCB) is shown there:
Inside the article, not behind a paywall [UPDATE 2: This article did not initially require a login to read so I made the post reflecting that fact. Then, later on, it suddenly went behind their paywall. I reached out to an editor I am acquainted with and asked her to look into it. She forwarded my note to the publisher (Clay Carsner) and in about five minutes flat he unlocked it for us. If you have any business with The Paris News or Mr. Carsner, please thank them. – Phillip] so please click the link – RRV ham radio club notes 50th anniversary – we have Ronnie Rumsey (KA5LEK), Steven Lott Smith (KG5VK) and Charles Penry (WA5VHU) in three photos.
Enjoy,
Phillip
