First off, Phillip’s job is more important than Field Day and I wouldn’t want him to jeopardize his job in in way. We will get it done somehow, with or without him.
These are my responses I emailed back to Phillip:
Food Service: I promise you I won’t starve, I haven’t yet, and I can prove it! Cindy and I are only setting up one station so one of us will be available for other stuff, including food runs. Catering Saturday lunch is nice. I wonder how many folk came out last year? I will try to keep a head count this year – and take names.
If I can’t make it the RV won’t be there, our coolers won’t be there, our power cords and our RV generator won’t be there… I can loan my trailer mounted welder generator to someone…
It is always nice to have your RV there as the air conditioner works really good! The canopy with clear walls that Cindy and I are going to bring will have an air conditioner but I don’t think it will keep it very cold like your RV does.
Cindy and I bring our own coolers, everyone else should do the same. Part of Field Day exercise.
As for generator, my quiet Honda EU2000i ran all the stations when your RV generator shut down. I will plan on bringing both my Honda EU1000i and EU2000i generators, which should run all stations no problem. Fuel won’t be much of a problem as these sip gas. Remember, only the radios have to be run off emergency power, everything else such as lights, fans, etc. can be plugged into the pavilion AC wall sockets.
As for AC power cords, everyone should bring their own extension cords. Again, part of Field Day exercise.
We have big plans for the scissor lift… but now I think it would be better if we locate someone with a drive on trailer that will handle the 4000 pound weight of the lift.
Richard at MTC’s full time job is at a trailer manufacturer. You might check with him to see if he knows of a trailer you can use to move your man-lift.
We need to get up to a working height of near 30 feet to clamp the top pulley to the parking lot light. A tall ladder might not be a good idea. C & C rental in Paris has some man-lifts for rent, don’t know what they charge. Anyone else know of a man-lift or bucket truck we can use? How about a bucket truck from the electric co-op?
If we don’t get to use a man-lift to put the pulleys up we may have to do something different for the two antennas.
As for the Bring Your Own Radio antennas, I can bring my 24’ ladder and with a pipe mast at the top we can strap the ladder to a brick column on the side of the building.
